Before doing this exercise with a partner, it's important for both of you to be aware of the basics of good communication skills. PAIRS suggests beginning with Good Talking Skills
and Stress Styles of Communication
When you're ready to begin this exercise, sit in the leveling position
, where you have eye contact, knee contact, and hands touching.
Become aware of your breathing. Very intentionally allow your breathing to flow gently and easily.
Take a deep breath and let it out.
With each deep breath, if there are any tight places in your body, allow them to loosen as you slowly exhale.
And then allow your breath to flow regularly and easily.
Close your eyes briefly and picture in your mind's eye moments from your life that were especially pleasurable and joyful.
Imagine walking into a museum and seeing these pictures hanging in a gallery.
Then take turns sharing.
First you share a description of the picture by finishing all of the sentence stems in this exercise.
Afterwards, reverse roles to allow your partner a chance to share a picture from his or her museum.
